Cat Dixon is a poetry editor with The Good Life Review and an adjunct instructor at the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Her poetry and reviews have appeared in numerous journals including Sugar House Review, Midwest Quarterly Review, Coe Review, Eclectica, and Mid-American Review. Recent poems have appeared in Parentheses Journal, Lowecroft Chronicle, and SWWIM Every Day. She has poems (co-written with Trent Walters) in They Said: A Multi-Genre Anthology of Contemporary Collaborative Writing (Black Lawrence Press, 2018). She was the co-editor of Watching the Perseids: The Backwaters Press Twentieth Anniversary Anthology (BWP, 2017).
Amy Haddad, PhD, MSN, MFA, FAAN has educated nurses and pharmacists at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska since 1988 where she also held the Dr. C.C. and Mabel L. Criss Endowed Chair in the Health Sciences. In addition, Amy served as Director of the Center for Health Policy and Ethics at Creighton University from 2005 – 2018 and now holds the rank of Professor Emerita. She was selected in 2001 to be part of the Pew National Fellowship Program for Carnegie Scholars, studying the impact of patient simulations on health professional learning. She has also been a pioneer in the use of poetry, creative prose and narrative writing as approaches to teaching healthcare ethics.
Heidi Hermanson has been published in Midwest Quarterly, Hiram Poetry Review, PlainSpoke, Filling the Empty Room, Mental Horizons, Midwest Compilation, the Omaha World Herald and elsewhere. She has been in many public art projects such as "8 counts/24," "OmaHome," and the benchMarks project, which featured brief inspirational quotes on bus benches throughout the city. She organized the first Poets' Chautauqua at the State Fair and there released her first chapbook, Midwest Hotel.Heidi has organized and directed four ekphrastic shows which she describes as a marriage between visual art and poetry.
Todd Robinson is the author of Mass for Shut-Ins (Backwaters Press, 2018) and Note at Heart Rock (Main Street Rag Publishing, 2012). His writing has appeared in such venues as Prairie Schooner, Sugar House Review, Cortland Review, Natural Bridge, Superstition Review, Weber: The Contemporary West, Chiron Review, and A Dozen Nothing. Recipient of the 2011-2012 Thompson Learning Community’s Outstanding Faculty Award, he has conducted writing workshops with The Seven Doctors Project, The Naturalist School, Nebraska Warrior Writers, Nebraska Writers Collective, and the CÚRAM center for research in medical devices. He is founder and host of the Kaneko Art Museum’s Bibliophilia reading series.
Matt Schur is the author of Cross Sections (2021), and has had writing featured in Valiant Scribe Literary Journal and Unlikely Stories. He holds a BA in English from Truman State University and an MA in Systematic Theology from Luther Seminary. When he’s not writing, Matt assists people experiencing homelessness as a full-time housing specialist and case manager in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Shyla Shehan was born in Iowa and has spent the majority of her life in the Midwest. She holds an MFA in Writing from the University of Nebraska where she leveled up her poetry game and discovered that the writing life has more to offer than just a way to cope with the chaos of the Universe. Her debut poetry collection, Unsuspecting Cinderella (Finishing Line Press) was released this year. Shyla is Co-founder and Editor of The Good Life Review and currently lives in Omaha, Nebraska with her husband, children, and four cats.
