Local Interest Coffee Mornings

Join us on the first Wednesday of every month for our new local interest coffee mornings. Come and enjoy refreshments, a talk and discussion on a different topic of local interest each month. Relax, meet new people, browse some of the library’s local history resources, and maybe learn something new. All welcome, free of charge, no need to book, just drop in.

Wednesday 1 Nov 10am - Military History with David Boler

David will discuss his book about his late father who joined the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1940 and served in several ships escorting convoys in the North Atlantic during the war. It describes his being trained as an ordinary rating then as an officer, and describes the convoys he escorted, his battles with U-boats, the circumstances of his ship being hit by an acoustic torpedo, and his being awarded the DSC by King George VI.

David has had a life-long fascination with the second world war, having been born just six years after its end. After a career in the Lloyd’s of London insurance market as a marine insurance broker, after my retirement he became chairman and a Trustee of the International Churchill Society, a registered charity devoted to teaching the younger generation about the life and times and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill. He moved with his life to Stratford on Avon three years ago from Kent.

Staff delivering the event may choose to wear a mask or visor and maintain a social distance.
