Explore practical AI use in council workflows while keeping records, transparency, public value, and accountability in focus.
About this Event

Council and community service workflows come with public responsibilities. AI support needs to work within them, not around them.

For local government and public-sector teams, using AI is not simply about saving time. Records, transparency, public value, and the ability to explain or review a decision all matter. This practical Field Lab gives participants a structured way to test where AI may assist with everyday workflows while keeping those responsibilities in view.

Using fictional enquiry and council-paper materials, you will examine practical use cases, test AI assistance, and assess opportunities based on public value, transparency, recordkeeping, and contestability.

Who this is for

This session is designed for:

  • Local government officers
  • Council customer service and administration teams
  • Community-services professionals
  • WA public-sector staff
  • Governance, records, and programme teams

No advanced technical background is required.

What we will do together
  • Map local service pressures: Identify workflow bottlenecks and administrative tasks where AI support may create public value.
  • Test governance boundaries: Explore realistic scenarios involving records, transparency, review rights, and the need for decisions to remain explainable and contestable.
  • Test enquiry triage: Use fictional community enquiries to explore where AI assistance may help sort, summarise, or structure information.
  • Support council-paper workflows: Test AI assistance on fictional council-paper material with clear review and verification steps.
  • Score opportunities: Assess potential use cases based on value, feasibility, risk, and public-sector responsibilities.
  • Build a 30-Day Plan: Prioritise a practical opportunity and define the next steps for further testing or implementation.

What you will take home
  • A Local Government and Community Services Problem Brief
  • A Public Value and Contestability Plan
  • A tested AI Workflow Canvas
  • A Scored AI Opportunity Map
  • A practical 30-Day AI Integration Plan

Good to know

Please bring your laptop for the practical activities. The session uses fictional enquiry and council-paper materials, so you do not need to bring confidential, personal, or sensitive information. This is a practical professional development Field Lab, not legal or policy advice, and existing recordkeeping, transparency, governance, and decision-making responsibilities remain with the appropriate officers.
