Local Author Night in Grand Rapids!
About this Event

We’re excited to welcome three local authors (two published by our own Chapbook Press!) to present their books at our Grand Rapids store! With three very different books, you’re sure to find something right up your reading alley!

The Sun Daughter's Gift
by Eva Finley

About the Book

One choice can save the past or alter the future. Pure light was all thirteen-year-old Claretta Arbogast had to fight the shadows, that threatened to take over the Earth. It was the Earth’s misfortune she also happened to be afraid of the dark. Thrust into a battle against Shadow People from the dark side of the moon, she must use the power to create pure light, a gift she received from the Sun’s youngest daughter, to defeat them. With help from Daijon, who has a secret power, Claretta races to light the town against the dark, and save the Sun’s daughters.

About the Author:

Eva Finley’s journey began when she was born in Harvey, Illinois. At the age of eleven she got her first taste of writing. At the age of fifteen it became a passion, and she hasn’t stopped yet. She is the author of The Sun Daughter’s Gift and has more stories to come. When she’s not writing you can find her at her full-time job. On her days off besides writing, you can find Eva reading, drawing, painting, teaching herself French, or hanging out with friends. After moving most of her life, Eva has finally found her home in Michigan, though Hogwarts will always be her home, where she’s a proud Hufflepuff.

Open Mausoleum Door
by Jennifer Morrison

About the Book:

A gift certificate to ‘spend the day together’ from Morrison’s twelve-year-old niece prompted a visit to explore Oakhill Cemetery in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and the pair encountered a mausoleum with a mystery. Morrison’s resulting research became an obsession that spanned a decade.

Ultimately the doors of the mausoleum opened for her, literally and figuratively, illuminating a one-hundred-year-old family tragedy, an architectural legacy, a city’s history, and her own place in her community.

About the Author:

Jennifer Morrison is the associate archivist for the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was previously the Aquinas College archivist and also spent fifteen years in the local history department of the Grand Rapids Public Library. Her career has involved working in museums and historic sites as well as archives, freelancing, giving public presentations, and, at least early on, spending time dipping candles for tourists in a long dress her mom made.

Find a Place for Me by Deirdre Fagan

About the Book:

“…This memoir will burrow down deep into your heart, finding its own place of comfort there. I dare you to be able to put it down.” —Noley Reid, author of Pretend We Are Lovely

Find a Place for Me is a memoir about facing a marriage’s last act—a spouse’s death—as a couple united in mind and holding hands. Deirdre and Bob are married eleven years and have two young children when forty-three-year-old Bob is diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. ALS determines the journey their marriage will now take, but Bob and Deirdre are resolute in how they will traverse their remaining months as a couple. Chronicling Bob’s illness, Find a Place for Me is also the love story of a happy marriage filled with humor, honesty, and essential conversations. In this moving, tragic, and surprisingly funny book, Deirdre and Bob raise a glass to love and the life each of them has left while learning how to lovingly say goodbye.
