Lobby Day: Advocate for Safety

Join us for a day of advocating for bicyclist and pedestrian safety at Bike Walk Nebraska's lobby day!

We will start the morning by discussing bills that could either support or deter active transportation and safety, best practices for pulling senators into the conversation, and how to testify.

That afternoon, LB530, the Vulnerable Road User Bill Bike Walk Nebraska is co-sponsoring, will have its hearing, and we invite you to attend the hearing and testify as a proponent!

Info: Meet at the information/visitor kiosk inside the Capitol Building. The kiosk is in the center of the building, and you'll see it from the entrance of any door.

Info: Enjoy breakfast from The Coffee House (provided) while Bike Walk Nebraska talks about the active transportation bills of this session, talking points for testifying, and ways to engage your senator throughout the legislative session.

Info: We will visit the hearing room, where the Vulnerable Road User Law (LB530) will be presented to the Judiciary Commitee and talk through testifying or signing in as a proponent for the hearing later that day.

Info: Did you know you can request to talk to your senators one-on-one while they're in session? Bike Walk Nebraska will show you how to do it and encourage you to speak to your representative and members of the Judiciary Committee to showcase the importance of the VRU bill and the other active transportation bills coming down the pipeline to their constituents.

Info: Time to show up in support! Please gather back at the center kiosk before the hearing begins at 1:30. We will walk together to Room 1525 (on the first floor) where the Judiciary Committee meets. You can either testify or simply sign-in as a proponent to the bill.

Info: The hearing schedule is not published yet, but the VRU bill will be getting presented to the committee amongst other bills. There is a possibility we will be listening to other bills and their testimonies while waiting for the VRU bill. The goal is to showcase how important this safety bill is to all vulnerable road users!
