10:00 am - 11:00 am: Sound Bath with Project Healing (in the upstairs program room)
A sound bath is meditative sonic therapy which is designed to help aid with a multitude of negatively impacting ailments that affect our mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing. Sound baths also assist in maintaining a sense of well-being and aid in the enhancement of our mental, emotional, and physical health.
Gongs, singing bowls, chimes, drums, and bells are just some of the instruments used during this meditative therapy. The attending participants are immersed in harmonic sounds designed to increase well-being in a non-invasive, safe environment conducive to deep healing.
This session is presented by Indigenous practitioner John Standingready of Project Healing.
- We encourage you to dress in comfortable, loose-fitting clothing appropriate for your sound bath experience.
- Please bring a yoga mat or a blanket that can be placed on the carpeted ground. Some yoga mats will be provided.
- We encourage those who attend sessions to be well nourished and hydrated as to keep focused and mindful of the sessions. Bring a water bottle!
- We ask that you turn your phones off or at least set them to vibrate so they do not interrupt the practitioner and/or other participants.
11:00 am - 11:45 am: Navigating Health Misinformation with McMaster University (in the Teen Room)
According to the Canadian Medical Association, over 78% of Canadians turn to the internet when looking for information about health conditions and symptoms – despite widespread criticism about the reliability of online health information. They have good reasons not to trust what they read. The World Health Organization states that the current situation regarding the spread of health misinformation has reached the state of an "infodemic." Health misinformation is widespread online and can cause real harm to our health if we follow the wrong advice.
This session, led by a librarian from McMaster University, will explore the risks of health misinformation and will provide strategies for identifying reliable sources how to effectively search for evidence-based health information.
