About this Event
Living Support Glasgow Necropolis Walking Tour
A relaxing and educational walk in Glasgow's Victorian time capsule
Join the Living Support Team as part of Mental Health Awareness Week on a relaxing walk to the Necropolis and learn about the history, archaeology and significance of this Victorian time capsule located in the urban landscape of Glasgow.
Glasgow Necropolis is a place of burial, a cemetery. Its foundation was part of the 19th century ‘Victorian garden cemetery movement’, which can be described by its value towards aesthetics and planning the place of burial with the purpose of creating a place for remembrance. Thanks to this, the Victorian era very quickly started to be associated with elaborate and ostentatious funerals and the architecture of death in itself became a grandeur.
