About this Event

Don’t just learn history. Experience it.

Step into an immersive evening of living history as The National Great Blacks In Wax Museum brings the people, voices, sacrifices, and defining moments of the Civil Rights Movement to life.
The People, The Face and The Legacy explores the powerful connections between the 1963 March on Washington, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 through live interpretation, storytelling, music, spoken word, reenactments, and personal reflections.

This is not a traditional museum tour. As you move through select spaces in the Museum and Mansion, history will unfold around you.

  • See Bayard Rustin emerge from the shadows of history and discover the organizing behind the March on Washington.
  • Feel Mamie Till’s pain as her story reveals the devastating impact of racial hatred on her beloved son, Emmett Till—and a family whose loss helped awaken a nation.
  • Hear the songs and voices that gave strength to a movement.
  • Listen to personal reflections from those who experienced the Civil Rights era and the lessons their stories hold for today.
  • Learn about the women, organizers, strategists, and everyday people whose courage helped move the nation forward.
  • Watch a new generation engage with the legacy of the movement through a recreation inspired by the 1963 Children’s March.
  • Then, march.

Guests will take part in a symbolic March on Washington, connecting the struggles and sacrifices of the past with the continued importance of civic engagement and participation today.
Come encounter the people behind the history, experience the moments that changed America, and consider what their legacy asks of us now.
The People. The Face. The Legacy.
Their stories brought us here. What will we do with their legacy?
