“Die before you die and let go before you go.” ??
A Living Death Ceremony is a deeply sacred space in which participants can explore death and dying in a way that opens them to the infinite possibilities of life. Often in the modern world people are barely living, perhaps going from home to work to the grocery store to pick up their kids and back home again, only to repeat it again the next day. A Living Death Ceremony (also known as a “Living Funeral”) refocuses people on what’s important to them and what they want out of life by making a space for them to experience what it would be like to lose that life, through a guided experience of death.
Participants are often surprised at how “light” the ceremony feels; the safety of the container and the depth of the topic makes for a profoundly vulnerable and openhearted experience. The evening will consist of writing your own eulogy, collaboratively discussing death and near-death experiences, bequeathing your top 5 sacred items in a living will, and being shrouded and then bathed in sound.
This ceremony has a shamanic bent, with an exploration of the "Underworld" and the shadow being key themes. You can think of it like a guided ego death, with an opportunity to define elements of your life you’d like to put to rest, as well as experiencing a “rebirth” into life as you arise from the shroud, born anew.
Investment for this ceremony is $111, and it is limited to 10 participants.
The space will last 3 hours total, with 1 hour of education & discussion followed by 2 hours in ceremony space.
