Liverpool Paediatric Neurosurgery Masterclass
About this Event
This event is for Healthcare Professionals only (HCPs).
EVENT DESCRIPTION
The landscape of paediatric neurosurgery is shifting rapidly, requiring not just technical operative brilliance, but highly integrated, cross-disciplinary care. This rejuvenated masterclass is designed to bridge the gap between core clinical training and advanced, holistic subspecialisation.
Recognising that optimal patient outcomes depend on a cohesive multidisciplinary team, this course is open to both neurosurgeons and advanced nursing professionals. Led by a respected faculty of neurosurgeons, specialist nurses, neuro-oncologists, and allied experts, the masterclass combines state-of-the-art lectures, interactive case panels, and surgical step-by-steps. Together, we will dive deep into the 'grey zones' of clinical decision-making, intraoperative crises, perioperative nursing pathways, and long-term holistic care for the child and family.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
To deliver a high-yield, multidisciplinary update on core paediatric neurosurgical conditions, combining advanced clinical decision-making and complication management with professional career development for both surgeons and nursing teams.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Define treatment thresholds for neonatal PHH, decisions in temporizing and permanent shunting, and review of long-term outcomes.
- Improve recognition and referral pathways and translate specialist techniques (managing major blood loss and large approaches) into general practice.
- Update knowledge on molecular tumour classifications and trials, and master 'disaster management' for third ventricle and suprasellar approaches.
- Prepare senior candidates for FRCS exam requirements, mock Vivas, and consultant interviews.
- Demystify surgical neuroanatomy, navigate complex decision-making, and review emerging surgical technologies.
- Implement evidence-based protocols to prevent and manage shunt infections, empyema, and complex cranioplasties.
