For their last concert of the season the Liverpool Mozart Orchestra welcomes back pianist Ian Buckle to play Mozart’s early 6th Piano Concerto. Written in what is sometimes known as the ‘galant’ style, it is a radiant piece, and in the last movement the horns receive some prominence. Maybe this is the work for which Mozart once asked his sister to remind him “to give the horns something worthwhile to do”!
To finish off the season LMO have a second 200th anniversary celebration of the season (after Bruckner in March), this time the 200th anniversary of what many regard as the greatest symphony of all, Beethoven’s 9th, the 'Choral'. What can be said that hasn’t been said already about this piece? It has everything, and culminates with the uplifting 'Ode to Joy' in which the orchestra is joined by four vocal soloists and full choir. LMO are delighted to be partnering with the Liverpool Welsh Choral Union for this performance and a roster of wonderful soloists, all under the baton of their Chief Conductor, Robin Wallington.
There will be a free pre-concert talk at 6.45pm that will last approximately 20-25 minutes.
