The seventh Liver Bards poetry event of this year is titled ‘I like to listen’. It is coming to Ma Boyle’s in Liverpool on Tuesday 2nd July 2024.Performing bards and audience will come together downstairs in Ma Boyle’s Rum and Rumour Bar.
Come speak your truth and listen to others speak theirs.
Please contact me (Ali) if you know you would like a poetry slot and will be there (5 minutes maximum in total – shorter is fine. Please stick to the time).
There may be the opportunity for poets to sign up on the night at the venue from 7.30pm if all the spots are not filled.
Jake Archer is due to start the music sometime after 7.
The poeteering begins at 8.
This will be my 92nd Liver Bards as host.
Thank you to the 149 bards who’ve performed thus far this year in our six previous events.
About the title ‘I like to listen’: it is a quote from Ernest Hemingway, a great writer who died on 2nd July 1961. The longer version is, ‘I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.’
Some books published during his lifetime include: The Sun Also Rises (1926); A Farewell to Arms (1929); For Whom the Bell Tolls (1940); and The Old Man and the Sea (1952).
Hope to see you at Liver Bards on Tuesday 2nd July.
