About this Event
Elizabeth provides an exciting musical excursion that will captivate the audience.
Pianist and vocalist Elizabeth Shepherd made her mark on the international music scene in 2006 when her debut album, “Start To Move”, was named one of the top jazz albums of the year by listeners of the renowned Gilles Peterson Show on BBC Radio Worldwide. Since then, the Montreal-based soul-jazz trailblazer has solidified her reputation as one of the most captivating and innovative artists in today's jazz scene. Trained as a classical pianist, Elizabeth transitioned to jazz through her passion for old-school hip-hop, a journey that has shaped her distinctive and unique musical style.
Praised as “a jazz virtuoso with a pop sensibility” (The Globe and Mail), Elizabeth is celebrated worldwide for her original compositions and soulful performances. Alongside artists like Esperanza Spalding and Robert Glasper, she’s part of a new generation of jazz-influenced musicians who are bridging the genre to younger audiences. A six-time JUNO Award nominee and two-time Polaris Prize nominee, she has released seven critically acclaimed albums, collaborating with prominent artists like Lionel Loueke and UK producer Nostalgia 77. Elizabeth has toured extensively across North America, Europe, Japan, and Mexico, performing at iconic venues such as the Cotton Club (Tokyo), The Jazz Café (London), and festivals like North Sea and ELBJazz. She’s shared stages with legends such as Christian McBride, Victor Wooten, Spankie Wilson, Quantic Soul Orchestra, the Five Corners Quintet, and Bonobo, and was personally invited to open for Jamie Cullum at the sold-out Hollywood Bowl.
Her latest project, born out of three years of remote collaboration during Covid restrictions, is a testament to resilience, hope, and creativity in the face of uncertainty, celebrating the enduring power of artistic expression.
"Wholly unique and unclassifiable style that blurs the boundaries between jazz, R&B, pop and hip hop, Elizabeth Shepherd is perceived by some commentators as a distaff equivalent to Robert Glasper. The truth is, though, that her music is deeper and more cerebral than Glasper's ...
she's more like an intellectual Esperanza Spalding" - MOJO (UK)
