Flying With Wings: A True Story of an Alaska Aircraft Accident, plunges readers into the chilling depths of a 1994 DeHavilland Otter floatplane disaster in Alaska's Taku River. This story intertwines the adrenaline-pumping urgency of the crash and the determination of the Wings of Alaska pilots in the rescue operations. It also recounts the integrity and dedication of the company owners and employees and community members in responding to the tragedy. While ten eager adventurers embarked on what promised to be a mesmerizing glacier-sightseeing trip to a remote Alaska lodge, the tragedy ensured that some would never make the journey back. But this is not a story mired solely in sorrow. The narrative captures the spirit of human resilience, especially epitomized by one survivor's poignant return two decades later, seeking understanding and closure from the place that took her loved ones. Some of the purposes in the story's telling are to help prevent the far-too-many aviation accidents still happening across the United States and to help promote better mental health treatment for pilots and others who experience trauma. About the Author:

Susan Stark Christianson is an award-winning filmmaker, author and former journalist. She is the owner of Christianson Communications and founder of the Women's Voices Project and Walton Group Publications. She served as an advertising and communications consultant for numerous state and federal agencies and private businesses for more than 25 years. Her consulting work in the aviation industry included preparing Emergency Response Plans for helicopter and airline companies in Alaska and the Lower 48. Her professional experience also includes serving as Deputy Director of Communications for the Office of the Governor in Alaska. She is also the author of the book "Women's Voices: The Wisdom of the Grandmothers" and the producer and director of the award-winning documentary film "The Wisdom of the Grandmothers," which aired on PBS and FNX stations around the country. She is currently producing and directing the upcoming documentary film "Indigenous Prophecy Today," interviews with wisdom keepers around the world. In 2018, Susan was honored to receive the Rasmuson Foundation Fellowship Award to support her work. She is a proud mother of two daughters and a grandmother to two wonderful boys.
