About Our Work

Be Connected Durham presents the Fayetteville Street Corridor (FSC) Fellows Project, #EverybodyEats, and #EquityRemovesBarriers (ERB) Initiatives. LIVE! FROM THE FSC is a response to the disconnection, displacement, and suppressed sense of belonging our neighbors experience living in a progressive Southern city where the harm caused by the construction of NC Highway 147 through a thriving Hayti remains unaddressed and therefore, unhealed.

LIVE! serves an artistic prescription for community in the sense that we bring the arts to the people and meet each other where we are. We are here. Vehicles for lasting change, visual, performing, literary, theatre, film, media, textile, soft & hard tech, and healing arts provide an education, a message, and a reminder of our power to build from a place already ripe with cultural abundance.

Our neighbors have been here--the creative geniuses of our time-- those who find ways to survive and thrive even when access to information, opportunity, and resources are limited. We are change artists. Our vision is to implement 3rd Friday celebrations of culture at five (5) creative placemaking and arts access points in the Historic Hayti District, marking the neighborhood's permanent name change as well as establishing the first annual Durham Carnival on Hayti in 2030. Because, we will be here.
