Live Fashion Illustration Workshop
About this Event
I'm Niki Groom, an experienced live illustrator with a background in fashion design. I've illustrated live at Harrods, Selfridges, St.Pauls Cathedral, The V&A Museum and at press launches, private parties and weddings, capturing 10 minutes bespoke portaits of guests. The day before I open the doors to my solo exhibition at Centrespace Gallery, I'll be running this fast-paced workshop in Fashion Illustration.
The day will be perfect for live event illustrators looking to invest in a day of development, or for those who enjoy life drawing who'd like to try something a bit different. Beginners are also really welcome.
We'll start with a series of short exercises, focusing on faces, hair, skin colour, silhouette, movement, drape and pattern. These demos and exercises are designed to get you working quickly and confidently. After breaking for lunch we’ll work with a dancer and use our skills from the morning to capture the model and her clothing, though a mixture of short & long static poses and dances.
The gallery will be closed to the public for the whole day and you'll be the first people to experience the exhibition. We will set up on tables in the space, and later when working with the model we will sit around in a circle with our drawing boards on our laps. If you'd like to bring an easel or side table then that's fine.
All materials supplied, but please do bring any art equipment you have that you'd like to use (especially useful will be large paintbrushes for watercolour size 16 plus). No experience necessary, but a willingness to experiment is key. The day will be focused on drawing women only - I'll run another sessions in future for drawing men if there is demand. Small group only, max 12 attendees.
