Set in the beautiful, atmospheric acoustics of St Nicholas Church this autumn, we invite you to an evening of intimate solo live performances by two remarkable artists: Wojtek Mazolewski (solo on double bass) and Ola Szmidt (solo flute, vocals, and electronics).

The leader of the internationally acclaimed Wojtek Mazolewski Quintet reveals a more intimate, personal side in his solo project. His new album, Solo, offers a chamber-like, cinematic, and deeply evocative listening experience. Rather than leaning into virtuosic displays, Mazolewski presents the double bass as a deeply melodic instrument—played with wonderful sensitivity and tenderness to reveal the true richness and depth of its sound.

Ola has been curating events at St Nicholas Church since 2010. She is renowned for her intricate, intimate live-looping compositions, which feature her voice and flute at the core of her musical universe. Ola's musical language is shaped by studies with Pauline Oliveros and Dr Bret Battey at DMU, mentorship from Four Tet, and training in jazz and improvised music with Julie and Keith Tippett. She also holds an MA in Improvised Music and Jazz from the University of York.
