About this Event
This is a rare chance to witness a live recording session with one of traditional Irish music's finest button accordion players — Colm Gannon.
Born in Dorchester to Connemara parents, Colm has been at the heart of Irish traditional music for decades. He won the All-Ireland accordion championship in 1994, toured the world with Riverdance and Dervish, and has released a string of acclaimed recordings including Return to Droim, The Ewe with the Crooked Horn, and The Rights of Man. His playing is rooted deeply in the Connemara style he learned from his father, John Gannon — lyrical, unhurried, and full of character.
At this session, Colm and fellow musicians will record new material in front of a live audience as part of the inaugural Tunes on the Charles festival — Greater Boston's first traditional Irish music and dance festival, running April 30–May 3 across Cambridge, Somerville, and Watertown.
This is not a concert with a set playlist. It's a recording session — meaning you'll hear the music being made, tune by tune, take by take. Expect the informal energy of a session, the focus of a studio, and the warmth of a room full of people who love this music.
Seating is limited to keep the atmosphere intimate. Tickets required.
