Il y a quarante ans – le 13 juillet 1985 – le monde s’est arrêté alors que les plus grandes stars de la musique se réunissaient au stade de Wembley à Londres, en Angleterre, et au stade JFK à Philadelphie pour lutter contre la famine en Afrique. Beaucoup de prestations, notamment celles de Queen, U2, The Who, Elton John, Dire Straits, The Pretenders, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Black Sabbath et Phil Collins, furent inoubliables.
Billy Bob Productions et Le 9e présentent fièrement Live Aid 40 Montréal au profit de
MotherFood International, un organisme sans but lucratif basé à Montréal et dédié à la lutte contre la malnutrition infantile et maternelle dans le monde entier.
« Bien que des progrès incroyables aient été réalisés dans la lutte mondiale contre la faim et la famine, la crise est loin d’être terminée, » declared Jeff Baikowitz, cofondateur de MotherFood International. « La malnutrition reste responsable de la moitié des décès d’enfants de moins de cinq ans, causant la mort de plus de 3 millions d’enfants chaque année, soit bien plus que les guerres, le changement climatique, la malaria et le sida réunis.
Live Aid 40 Montréal est plus qu’un concert. C’est une occasion d’agir et de faire partie d’un mouvement mondial qui apporte un vrai changement, encore une fois. Car le combat n’est pas terminé. Mais l’espoir ne l’est pas non plus. »
La lauréate d’un prix Juno Dawn Tyler Watson, les guitaristes Shane Murphy et Steve Hill, Jake Clemons du E Street Band, le dynamique chanteur rock Jonas, le rockeur de la côte Est Adam Baldwin, et The Alternative All Stars avec Howard Bilerman, Dan Boeckner (Wolf Parade), Tim Kingsbury (Arcade Fire) et Patrick Stickles (Titus Andronicus) font partie de la vingtaine d’artistes qui monteront sur la scène du 9e pour interpréter certaines des chansons les plus emblématiques du concert original de Live Aid. D’autres musiciens seront annoncés prochainement.
A benefit concert by mostly Montreal musicians to salute the 40th anniversary of Live Aid. Proceeds to MotherFood International, a Montreal based nonprofit organization dedicated to combating child and maternal malnutrition worldwide.
The brainchild of Bob Geldof, Live Aid brought together some of the biggest names in music for over 12 hours at Wembley Stadium in London and JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on July 13, 1985. The set by Queen was epic. Other standouts included U2, The Who, Elton John, Phil Collins, Dire Straits, Simple Minds, Hall & Oates w/ Eddie Kendrick & David Ruffin of The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Pretenders, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Black Sabbath and so many others.
Join us as Juno winner Dawn Tyler Watson, Shane Murphy, Steve Hill, Jonas, Jake Clemons, The Alternative All Stars featuring Howard Bilerman, Dan Boeckner of Wolf Parade, Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire and Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus, East Coast rocker Adam Baldwin, James Correa, Jasmine Bleile, Felicity Hamer and Jason Rockman perform iconic songs from the original Live Aid concert in the historic art deco La Grande Salle. More artists will be announced shortly.
The house band features Rob MacDonald on guitar, Alec McElcheran on bass & vocals, Dan Legault on drums and Yves Frulla, who recorded and toured with Celine Dion, on keys.
