Little Wool Factory in Barcelona

(ES) "Las Pequeñas Fábricas de Lana" (Little Wool Factories) se imaginan como espacios locales donde la gente puede procesar la lana con máquinas y herramientas accesibles, desde el cardado hasta el hilado y tejido. El taller comenzará conectando con otros laboratorios europeos, presentando los conceptos clave y mostrando demostraciones en vídeo, desde máquinas industriales hasta herramientas DIY. A continuación, los participantes descubrirán las herramientas locales y tendrán la posibilidad de practicar el montaje y testear las herramientas, elaborando artefactos de lana.

En Barcelona, es dentro del Instituto de Arquitectura Avanzada de Cataluña donde acogeremos nuestra Pequeña Fábrica de Lana.

• Los participantes tendrán la posibilidad de pasar por el proceso de la lana con una herramienta manual de cardado, pequeñas máquinas de hilar y telares. Juntos, dedicaremos un tiempo a entender cómo se fabrican las máquinas y las probaremos con diferentes tipos de lanas incluyendo la que fue coloreada la semana anterior por los participantes de los Wool Mondays.
• Como vista previa, te invitamos a descubrir una práctica original de artesanía digital: El Robot Tufting combinado con el Needle Punch.

¿Shemakes y WOOL Mondays?

Para los Wool Mondays, que tendrán lugar tres lunes de mayo, la red shemakes te invita a descubrir y profundizar en un tema relacionado con la lana cada vez, a través de charlas de convivencia y talleres prácticos que se celebrarán en diferentes lugares al mismo tiempo.

Tres orientaciones dan forma a nuestras exploraciones colectivas: lugar, diseñar y fabricar. Con esto queremos decir que los laboratorios están investigando sus ecosistemas locales (lugar), experimentando prácticas originales en torno a procesos sostenibles de teñido natural (diseñar) y desarrollando herramientas de código abierto para crear lo que llamamos Little Wool Factories (Fabricar).

Esperamos que este evento inspire, conecte y ofrezca ideas concretas que ayuden a fomentar ecosistemas locales de lana impulsados por el arte, el diseño y el cuidado.

Todos los datos recogidos se utilizarán únicamente para los fines de Shemakes, entre el consorcio de Shemakes.

(EN) Little Wool Factories, are imagined as local spaces where people can process wool with accessible machines and tools, from carding to spinning, and weaving to knitting. The workshop will start by connecting with other european labs, by introducing the key concepts behind the Little Wool Factories and showcase video demonstrations, from industrial machines to DIY wood tools. Then, participants will discover local tools and have the possibility to MAKE by practicing tool assembling and uses and crafting wool artefacts.

In Barcelona, it is inside the Institute of Advance Architecture of Cataluña that we will host our Little Wool Factory.

• Participants will have the possibility to go through the wool process with a carding handy tool, small spinning machines and looms. Together, we will spend time to understand how does the machines were made and we will test them with different type of wools including the one that was coloured the week before by participants of the Wool Mondays.

• As a bonus, IAAC team is inviting you to discover an original digital craft practice: The Robot Tufting combined with Needle Punch.

Shemakes and Wool Mondays

For Wool Mondays, which take place on three Mondays in May, the shemakes network invites you to discover and dig into one wool-related topic at a time through convivial talks and hands-on workshops that will be hosted in different locations at the same time.

Three lenses shape our collective explorations: place, design, make. By this, we mean that labs are investigating their local ecosystems (place), experiencing original practices around sustainable natural dyeing processes (design) and developing open-source tool-making to create what we call Little Wool Factories (make).

We hope this event will inspire, connect and give concrete insights that will help foster local wool ecosystems driven by art, design and care.

All the data gathered will be used just for the shemakes purposes, among the Shemakes consortium.
