Step into Bradford’s remarkable Little Germany and discover a part of the city packed with Victorian architecture, dramatic stone buildings and photographic detail.

This hands-on photography workshop is all about seeing architecture differently. We’ll explore the streets of Little Germany, looking at how buildings are designed, how light moves across them and how you can use composition, perspective and detail to create stronger photographs.

You don’t need to be an architecture buff. You just need a camera, a willingness to look up, and a curiosity about what’s hiding in plain sight.

What we’ll explore

We’ll look at:

• Composition and framing: finding strong shapes, lines and patterns
• Perspective: using your position and focal length to change how a building feels
• Light and shadow: making the most of Bradford’s beautiful stone architecture
• Details: doorways, windows, carvings, textures and architectural features
• Repetition and rhythm: spotting patterns that can become the photograph
• Working with the whole building and the tiny details
• How to make architectural photographs feel less like records and more like images

Along the way, I’ll set you a series of fun photographic challenges to get you looking at Little Germany with fresh eyes.

Who is it for?

This workshop is suitable for beginners and photographers who want to develop their eye for architecture and urban photography.

You can use a DSLR, mirrorless camera, compact camera or phone. I’ll adapt the technical advice to whatever you’re shooting with.

You don’t need to know your camera inside out. In fact, this is a great opportunity to practise.
