ABSTRACT: The composition and purity of battery components directly affect overall battery performance with respect to energy density and cycle life. Precise and accurate characterization of lithium-ion battery anode, cathode, separator/binder and electrolyte/solvent solution materials is enabled with innovative technologies. In this presentation we will detail a comprehensive array of instrumentation techniques for the battery industry from raw material extraction and refinement to battery production, QC, and recycling. Instrumentation required for each includes gas and liquid chromatography, molecular and elemental spectroscopy, microscopy and non-destructive CT scanning, compression and tinsel testing, as well as thermal analysis techniques.
BIO: Jon Peters graduated cum laude from Maryville College with dual bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and music in 1996. After six years in academia, Jon then worked as a formulations chemist and lab manager in the pharmaceutical industry before joining the analytical instrumentation industry. Jon joined Shimadzu Scientific Instruments in 2017 as Elemental Spectroscopy Product Manager. In his current role as Senior Market Manager for the Chemical and Energy industries, Jon applies his experience with spectroscopy and chromatography instrumentation, software, consumables, and sample introduction technologies to creating innovative marketing initiatives.
