Listening through other ears
About this Event
Listening Through Other Ears: A Guided Soundwalk
Join us for a guided soundwalk through the UW–Madison campus, beginning at the bottom of Bascom Hill near Park Street and ending near Storyteller’s Circle.
Together, we will walk slowly, listen closely, and experiment with 3D-printed listening tools that invite us to hear familiar places in unfamiliar ways. Along the route, we will move through a series of contrasting acoustic environments, including open campus spaces, traffic edges, enclosed courtyards, Library Mall, the Wisconsin Historical Society, Union Terrace, the Lakeshore Path, and Muir Woods.
This walk is an invitation to listen to spaces and think about how they are organized, designed, and experienced acoustically. The 3D-printed listening tools will help us “zoom in” on different directions and frequencies of sound, highlighting acoustic details that we may not usually notice. Through this process, we will become more aware of sound as both a physical phenomenon and a lived spatial experience.
No prior experience with soundwalking is needed. All are welcome.
