Listening Session - Task Force for a Safter Virginia Beach

The Mayor’s Task Force for a Safer Virginia Beach has been assembled to engage the community and stakeholders and develop recommendations to ensure our community remains a safe place for our residents and a desired tourist destination for our visitors. The Task Force has created Listening Sessions in which community members are invited to participate in this collaborative work and share their thoughts on keeping Virginia Beach safe.

The Task Force is made up of 19 community leaders, including some names you might recognize:
- The Honorable Michael Feggans, Virginia State Delegate, District 97
- Jamal Gunn, Vice Chair of Virginia Beach Democratic Committee and Chair of the Human Rights Commission
- Melissa Lukeson, Community Organizer and Leadership Team Member of COVA Coalition
The Task Force is expected to complete its work in late 2026 and submit its recommendations to the City Council for consideration. Regular updates will be provided to City Council about the Task Force’s progress.
