LP006: BODY DOUBLING SESSION

WHAT IS BODY DOUBLING?

Body doubling is a productivity method devised to help ADHD-ers with getting things done, but anyone can benefit from it. It involves working individually, but alongside others - usually on a task you have been putting off, or can lose focus on. As you'll know, creative work can be isolating and hard to grasp - we tend to work alone, for undefined periods of time - so this session will try to interrupt this. We will co-work alongside each other, working solidly (ish) for just one full hour, and then popping off together to the pub to celebrate : )

SESSION STRUCTURE

We will gather together in the space, briefly discuss our general intentions for the session, then crack on, seeing what we can get done in an hour. It will be a sort of non-professional co-working - we will set up the room with cosy corners, chairs and tables, and tea-making facilities

At the end of the power hour, we will not be focusing on what has been achieved or asking people to show their work - the focus is much more on mutual support and solidarity in making. We will also have a slightly separate space for people to use for taking breaks if needed, or chatting over ideas with others if that's how you work best

WHAT TO BRING

Anything you're working on, or have been putting off! Due to the format and space, please don't bring anything too messy or loud - we're thinking more like sketchbooks, notebooks, laptops and iPads, as opposed to oil paintings and drumkits hehe. We will gather some extension cables for chargers. You are welcome to bring one too, as well as headphones or earplugs, snacks, fidget toys, etc! 

WHAT IS LISTENING PARTY?

LISTENING PARTY is a new community for artists, writers, crafters, designers, and anyone in-between to:

• Spend time with other creatives on a consistent basis
• Showcase and discuss what we are working on
• Explore and discuss issues relating to being a practitioner
• Access and offer feedback
• Exchange ideas and skills, learn from one another
• Hold ourselves accountable to make changes and report back

We want to be a support system, a sounding board, a network.

Peer-led - non-hierarchical - intersectional - all identities, skill levels and disciplines welcome - no art school or crit experience required

- Accessibility: the gallery has twelve steps and a stairlift available for use. There is one gender-neutral toilet. We aim to be as neurodivergent-friendly as possible, with low lighting and regular breaks. If we can do anything to make your visit more accessible to you, please let us know
