About CTRLZORA

Blending deep house, classic Chicago techno, Afro-diasporic rhythms, with jazz-laced experimentation, musician, DJ, and event curator, CTRLZORA crafts a raw and soulful sound that bridges ancestral pulse with future-facing energy. Mentored by the very architects and contributors of the genres, their raw sound spans from Midwestern electronic music to the African diaspora and beyond, reclaiming the sound as a liberatory birthright for marginalized communities. CTRLZORA curates parties frequently under the moniker and production alias The Cowrie, which focuses on bringing intergenerational disk jockeys from across the country with a strong midwestern and vinyl record focus, who draw on the history and culture of black dance music. They have also participated in panels, fundraised and spoken out for the preservation of historical house venues, been invited for lectures on the subject of Black Social and Cultural intersections in dance music and gatherings in the midwest and beyond, and have been one of this current years board members, and programmers of the Chicago House Music Festival. Featured in media such as the Documentary, House Music: A Cultural Revolution, which won an Emmy for cultural documentaries of the year, Zora continues to tour across and outside of the country, spreading their take on dance music straight from the epicenter, but never forgetting where they are from.
