About this Event
Join us for a guided sound walk through St Michael’s Flags and Angel Meadow Park ~ once a densely populated working-class neighbourhood, now a site of major urban redevelopment. Together, we’ll tune into the hidden flows of River Irk, exploring how water carries memory, history, and change.
Guided by artist and researcher Fiona Brehony, this event is part of the project ~ an ongoing collective exploration of rivers as vessels of political, social, and ecological memory. This sound walk invites you to listen differently ~ to the subtle textures of place, the sonic traces of the Irk, and the entangled stories held within its banks.
Using field recordings and guided listening exercises, we’ll reflect on:
- What the river remembers
- What has been buried or erased
- And how creativity and care might help us reimagine our relationships to urban rivers
This is not just a walk ~ it’s an invitation to move slowly, to listen with attention, and to consider the river as a living witness to change. This is the first in a series of Liquid History sound walks with that will follow parts of River Irk over the next year.
What to bring:
- Comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
- Curiosity, openness, and a willingness to slow down
Accessibility:The walk will follow accessible paths with regular stopping points. If you have specific access needs, feel free to get in touch.
Free: Book a ticket or Email me at [email protected] to turn up.
Donation: All proceeds will go towards The Sameer Project - South Campaign.
