About this Event
Instructor - Brooke Lambert
Brooke Lambert is a professional printmaker and painter. She holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and shows her work widely in New England, New York, and beyond. Brooke works in Studio 447 at Western Avenue Studios & Lofts in her current city of Lowell, MA. She is currently represented by Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition in New York. Brooke is a sponsored artist by Akua Inks and Speedball Art Products. She has ten years of teaching experience with children and adults. She currently teaches art workshops and holds artist demos at several locations in MA, NH, and ME.
Class DescriptionIn this class, students will be introduced to the printmaking process of linocut. The class will cover techniques in carving linoleum, composition, ink mixing, and printing. At their own pace, students will learn how to create a design and carve it in linoleum using carving tools. Students will learn how to ink and print their linoleum blocks by hand. In a relaxed and welcoming environment, students will create many beautiful prints of their own as well as collaborate with their classmates.
This class is suitable for beginners and can be adjusted for all levels of experience.
Material FeeThe materials fee for this class is $15. This is separate from the ticket price and is to reimburse the instructor for any tools or materials used in this class. This will be paid once, directly to the instructor at the start of the first class meeting. This instructor accepts payments in cash.
Class GoalsThe first third of the class will cover:
- Carving tools, techniques & Safety
- Designing and creating a composition on linoleum.
- Ink mixing with Akua Inks demo.
The second third of the class will cover:
- Carving design with carving tools in linoleum
- Individual and group instruction on carving techniques
The third part of this class will cover:
- Printmaking techniques demo for Linocut
- Inking and printing linoleum blocks by hand to make handmade greeting cards and prints
- Students will have the option to collaborate to print with their classmates
Students will learn
- the basics of the medium of Linocut Printmaking
- techniques to safely and effectively use linocut carving tools
- how to create a design and carve it in linoleum using carving tools.
- how to ink and print their linoleum blocks by hand to create several original prints of their own
- Collaborate with classmates in an inclusive printmaking environment
