Lino-Cut Workshop Course - 4 weeks

This traditional method of printing, using carved lino or Japanese vinyl material, offers a fantastic way to print your designs.
About this Event

No previous Lino print experience is needed as John will guide you from beginning to end with full instruction and demonstration on how to transfer/ draw an image onto the Lino, how to go use the tools, cutting a basic design and making the print.

Over the 4 week, 2 hour sessions, you will learn about the safety precautions required in the handling of very sharp chisels and gouges, and the tools, materials and papers used in linocut relief printing.You will build up from a very simple design, to accustom you to handling the tools safely, to the completion and printing of slightly more complicated images for you to print, gaining confidence all the while.

You will have prints made with your newly cut lino design, ready to show off. You will be able to take your Lino tile home to repeat the print as many times as you like to personalise gifts, greetings cards and more.We will be using black and coloured, non toxic inks, so please bring an apron or old shirt/ tshirt that you don't mind getting messy. Gloves will be provided for the messy side of printing.

We will be working from an A6 (105 x 148 mm) plate initially, so please bring a pre drawn or pre printed simple A6 design that you can work with, or you can copy an image or photo you have on your phones.Each session should last up to 2hours, to allow enough time for you to become accustomed to using the tools provided, carve your block, and print an image.Should you decide you would like to further your experience, and gain more confidence in this intriguing area of printmaking, John will be pleased to advise you on the next stage you may take.
