About this Event

Lino Block Printmaking Inspired by Contemporary Artists

Learn the fundamentals of lino block printmaking, from transferring your design to carving, inking, and hand-printing your own piece of art to take home. This hands-on class is open to all levels and is especially welcoming to beginners who want a guided, creative introduction to printmaking.

What You Will Learn

  • The fundamentals of relief printmaking using linoleum
  • How to transfer a simple design onto a lino block
  • Safe and effective carving techniques using basic tools
  • How to ink a block and create hand-printed impressions
  • How to experiment with mark-making, texture, and contrast to develop your own visual style

How the class works

  • Explore examples of how contemporary artists use relief printmaking to inspire your work
  • Watch short, live demonstrations before trying each step yourself
  • Work in guided segments, with time to pause, catch up, and ask questions
  • Receive personalized, one-on-one guidance throughout the class
  • Print several editions from your carved block
  • Wrap up with time for final questions

What's included

  • All class materials provided
  • Open studio access from 2:00 to 6:30 PM (shared basic art supplies for independent work provided)
  • Light snacks, tea, water, and coffee

A few things to note

  • You’re welcome to arrive anytime during the studio access hours to enjoy the open studio, but please make sure you arrive at least 10 minutes before your class start time (4:30 PM, 90-minute class) so you can settle in.
  • During open studio hours, you’re welcome to work on your own project, enjoy light snacks, tea, and coffee, and connect with other creative people at your own pace.
