Inspired by Nordic textile patterns, Lines and Lineage: Works by Amy Sands at the Nordic Center presents new reimagined artworks utilizing textile patterns from the collections of the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis and the Osterøy Museum in Loneväg, Norway. Several of the works are inspired by an old sample book of Swedish bobbin lace from the ASI collection entitled “Knyppel Profver” or “Lace Tests”. This book belonged to Carolyn Hjelmerus, who immigrated to Minnesota in 1889. An opening reception is scheduled from 1-4 PM with an artist talk at 1 PM. Sands will lead a related workshop at a later date. Amy Sands is a fiscal year 2022 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
