Ancestral (or “intergenerational”) trauma is having a moment as awareness of our hidden wounds and biases bubbles up through the cultural discourse. But when journalist and memoirist Seth Lorinczi began investigating his own family secrets, the only way into deeper understanding was a terrifying—but ultimately transformative—descent into the shadowy byways of underground psychedelic therapy.
Leapfrogging off his recently published book— Death Trip: A Post-Holocaust Psychedelic Memoir —Lorinczi returns to the Alembic to explore some of the book’s most provocative themes: the lack of initiation in Western culture, the fading connection with our own lineage, and the power of nonlinear modes of exploration, including creative writing, dreamwork, and psychedelic journeying. If previous events are any guide, this gathering will be a provocative and liberating exploration of the facets of family and self that so often remain shrouded. Seth Lorinczi's writing appears in The Guardian, DoubleBlind, Narratively, Portland Monthly and other print anthologies and periodicals. Death Trip: A Post-Holocaust Psychedelic Memoir is his first book. He's presented previously on it at Yale University, the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, UC Berkeley, and numerous other literary and cultural venues and podcasts. In addition, he was a co-founder of “Judaism & The Psychedelic Renaissance,” a first-of-its-kind live event in Portland, OR.
