About this Event
Explore the profound connections between generational trauma, familial habits, and cultural legacies in Lineage, a groundbreaking solo exhibition by Kelcie McQuaid, who received an Artist Innovation Grant Award to produce this body of work. This immersive experience brings together bio-art, portraiture, fiber art, mixed media, kinetic sculptures, and video installations to examine how family histories and inherited behaviors shape our identities.
Exhibition Highlights
- “Placenta” Bio-Art Petri Dishes
Witness over 300 bio-art pieces featuring household substances that evoke childhood memories, cultivated to grow living organisms. These Petri dishes symbolize the invisible forces of inheritance, evolving as they interact with their environment. - “Thicker Than Water” Portrait Drawings
Discover large-scale portraits of the artist, their mother, and father, housed in handmade acrylic Petri dishes containing bacteria and chemicals. These living portraits evolve during the exhibition, reflecting the dynamic nature of identity and family relationships. - “Chemical Reaction” Abstract Art + Soundscapes
Immerse yourself in twelve circular fiber and mixed media paintings inspired by soundscapes created with local musicians. These pieces visually and emotionally translate the theme of familial acceptance into vibrant, layered artworks. - “When I Dreamt as a Child, I Thought of You” Kinetic Sculptures
Six kinetic sculptures featuring reflective textiles, vintage photo transfers, and found materials interact with their surroundings, offering a dynamic representation of family history. - “NuClear Family” Soft Sculpture + Video Installation
A wall-mounted soft sculpture comes alive with video projections of vintage family photos, blending past and present to create an immersive and emotive storytelling experience.
