About this Event
The Office Multicultural Arts Initiatives (OMAI) Line Breaks Festival consists of performances, lectures and discussions by First Wave artist-scholars and invited professional artists engaging with the Madison community. Join us for the 19th Annual Line Breaks Festival Performance Showcases on April 10 and 11th featuring performances by Erika Dickerson-Despenza and First Wave Scholars.
Line Breaks brings the top new aesthetics in contemporary Hip Hop and interdisciplinary performance art to the UW–Madison campus and the surrounding community. Currently in its 19th year, the festival has evolved into a space to investigate contemporary American culture through multidisciplinary artistic expression with the elements and sensibilities of Hip Hop at the forefront. Line Breaks is now one of the largest Hip Hop-centered interdisciplinary arts festivals in the Midwest and continues to be a space for the cultivation and presentation of independent and collaborative work by First Wave artist-scholars. Here, unique responses to common human experiences are explored. The narratives, myths and legends, specific to these diverse communities, are unearthed, distilled and presented in an environment that encourages discussion and continued investigation. This years Line Breaks is a month long festival that spans from Friday March 20 to Friday April 24th. For more information on Line Breaks’ events, please visit: go.wisc.edu/LB26
