With a multitude of instruments and Dublin-born lead singer, Ellis Island engages audiences with interactive, high-energy songs, heartfelt ballads and traditional dance tunes.
Ellis Island has performed regularly at Irish pubs in Omaha, Kansas City and Weston, Missouri, and at the Kansas City and Greeley, Nebraska Irish festivals. In 2006, Ellis Island won the first Omaha Entertainment Award for “Best Ethnic/Indigenous Band” and in 2009 they received the Irish Music Association award for “Top Duo”. Music from their four cds is available on various streaming services.
Mick Doyle sings in an authentic, powerful style he learned growing up on the streets of Dublin. He plays guitar, bouzouki and bodhran (Irish drum). He also entertains with jokes and stories about Ireland and its music. Mick is a two-time world champion Muay Thai kick-boxer who now runs his own training gym in Omaha.
Dave Marsh adds vocal harmonies and plays accordion, tin whistles, hammered dulcimer, banjo, piano and percussion. He has performed traditional Celtic, international and American traditional music for many years throughout the state as a soloist and with Lincoln’s own Irish band Paddywhack. Marsh is also a retired psychotherapist from Lincoln Public Schools.
Fiddler Mike Naldrett is the latest addition to Ellis Island. Born and raised in England, Mike’s Irish style of fiddling has been influenced by his British upbringing and a two year stint as part of the house band, Celtic Clan, at the Black Rose in Boston. He toured South Africa with Rodney Cordner and Billy Penn's Brother & His Blue Fish In his spare time, Mike is a Research Associate Professor at UNL.
Tickets for Ellis Island are available for $20 ($16 for lafta members) at the door or at lafta.net/tickets.
