Harpist Lily Neill and guitarist Clive Carroll unite for a genre-bending concert of fiery dances, bluesy airs, and timeless music
About this Event

Mechanics' Hall presents internationally renowned soloists Lily Neill (harp) and Clive Carroll (acoustic guitar) for an eclectic concert program, with rapport and spontaneity.

Mining an array of styles and traditions, all the way from 16th-century European court music through to Irish and Nordic melodies, their repertoire of original music, fiery dances, and bluesy airs proves genre-bending, thrilling listening.

Between them, harpist Lily Neill and guitarist Clive Carroll have performed around the world, from North America to the Far East and everywhere in between. Primarily known as soloists, their musical union extends from their love of music composition and a vast array of musical styles— from eat-your-heart-out blues, to fiery dances from Eastern Europe, beguiling Irish airs, jaunty Ragtime numbers, and Elizabethan lute classics.

To their duo, they bring all the intensity of their solo performances and more, conjuring a genre-bending orchestra from two modest plucked-string instruments.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

American-born Lily Neill began performing as a child, amassing an impressive number of awards and recognition from everyone from U.S. President Bill Clinton to legendary Irish band, “The Chieftains”. Noted for her “perfect technique and unbridled emotion” (Germany’s Frankenpost), Irish Music Magazine crowned her, “...part of the new Harp revolution”. Neill’s tours have brought her everywhere from Tennessee to Tatarstan, and her collaborations range from rock n’ roll to poetry, dance, and film scores.

English guitar phenomenon Clive Carroll—“arguably the most accomplished fingerstylist in the world today” (Total Guitar Magazine)—is known for his dazzling compositions, versatility, and unparalleled technical virtuosity. He has toured and collaborated with guitar greats such as John Williams, Tommy Emmanuel, Xuefei Yang, Ralph Towner, and John Renbourn— as well as pop icon, Madonna. Acoustic Guitar Magazine calls him, “Probably the best and most original young acoustic guitarist/composer in Britain”. Neill and Carroll take listeners across an array of musical landscapes in a breathtaking display of musicianship, with an insight and humility that stems from their passion for music of all kinds.
