"In the ’Like Father, Like Son’ program, we bring together dance, folk songs, storytelling, and piano music within a family setting. It is rare for these four dimensions to showcase the various facets of Hungarian culture side by side, rooted in tradition, collective culture, and high art—unfolding naturally, without any force, at home, during family celebrations. Perhaps this is the essence of the program: to show that these are all branches of the same root. They reach different corners of the mind and heart. When words alone are not enough, the song speaks. When even the human voice falls short, let the string or the hollow stick resound what the human voice can never convey—yet, it is a person behind it. When music is no longer enough, a person kicks away the chair, and with hands, feet, and body, begins to make music—thus, they dance." /András Berecz, Kossuth Prize-winning singer and storyteller/
About the performers
The Kossuth Prize-winning folk singer and storyteller inherited her craft from her mother in Kunhegyes, who, in turn, inherited it from her father, Gábor Tanka, the famous dancer, jokester, and folk singer. András Berecz’s first child, István, has not only embraced his father’s knowledge but has also expanded upon it.
