Lights! Camera! MUSIC! Songs from the Silver Screen
Many iconic songs were introduced to the world on the silver screen, like “Moon River” from Breakfast at Tiffany’s. And classics from pop culture have been woven into movie story lines and soundtracks in unforgettable ways, like “It Had To Be You” from When Harry Met Sally. This year the Winston-Salem POPS went to the movies to curate their annual spring show titled “Lights! Camera! MUSIC!”
The program includes a number of Oscar and Grammy winning and nominated songs, performed by the full 36-voice POPS Chorus, the popOUTS — a small mixed ensemble — and a variety of solos and duets. Additional song titles include “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” from Disney’s The Lion King, “Joyful, Joyful” from Sister Act 2, “Nine to Five”, “All of Me” and “Yesterday”, each from films sharing the same name as the song. Others include “Ease on Down the Yellow Brick Road” (a musical portmanteau from The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz), the perennial tune “Thanks For the Memory”, “It’s All Right” from Pixar’s Soul, the much-loved “Rainbow Connection” from The Muppet Movie, and other fun, familiar songs from the movies.
This family-friendly show is scheduled for Thursday, June 11 at 6:30 PM at Ardmore Baptist Church (501 Miller Street). While the event free and open to the public, donations are encouraged and are very much appreciated. Proceeds will benefit the POPS Chorus.
Winston-Salem POPS Chorus is a 38-voice mixedv chorus comprised of local volunteer singers led by Director Kevin Mundy. UNC School of the Arts faculty member Robert Rocco is the Associate Director and Accompanist for the group.
