About this Event

The Los Angeles Public Library is thrilled to host students from the Ramon Cortines Grand Arts, Hollywood High, Roosevelt High School, Mendez High School, and Young Oak Kim Academy Drama Departments as they tell the story of Central Library in the Mark Taper Auditorium. Written by Emmy Award-nominated, New York Times bestselling author Joshua Hale Fialkov, Lighting the Stacks is a "Behind the Library" docudrama that gives insight into the founding of the library system, the fight to build a central library, the bigger fight to save it after the fire, and the questions of just what the future may hold.
Before the performance, from 12 noon to 1 p.m., we invite you to immerse yourself in the Central 100 Living Museum. Hosted by students from LAUSD’s Young Oak Kim Academy in Koreatown, this experience takes place throughout Central Library. Students will portray historical figures who tell the story of how a small reading room above a saloon became one of the most important, cutting-edge, and forward-facing libraries on the planet.
