About this Event

PS 9 Naples Street Elementary school is a PK-5 school located in Staten Island. This Lighthouse Visit will focus on how teachers plan for and implement a balanced approach to teaching math that develops fluency, automaticity, conceptual understanding, problem solving and inquiry skills while maintaining our core school structures of collaboration and assessment-capable learning. Teachers use a variety of pedagogical structures such as congress, error analysis, gallery walks, mental math mini-lessons, workstations, centers, and investigations to ensure that students develop the foundational and conceptual understanding they need to enter the upper grades.

This Lighthouse visit will highlight:

  • Specific math components and their purposes, including when, how and why to use them
  • The relationship between assessment and instructional decision making
  • Methods for unpacking and integrating standards across grade levels
