Light in Mind: One night of light art at the Midtown Campus in Santa Fe

On October 1st, SciArt Santa Fe in collaboration with aweStruct and The City of Santa Fe will present a one-night public light/video art projection event at the Midtown Campus called Light in Mind.
Light in Mind will be a site-specific walking tour of public projection artwork that will feature local, regional, national and international artists who are bridging the boundaries of art, design, architecture, engineering and science organized in conjunction with the international CODASummit on public art .
Featured Artists:
Michael Benjamin Wang is an American artist based in New York. Wang's work uses systems that operate at a global scale as media for art: climate change, species distribution, resource allocation and the global economy.
Ivan Depeña is an American artist, sculptor, and architectural designer. He is currently based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is known for his fine art and public art works and installations such as Reflect, located in the Stephen P. Clark Government Center, and the augmented reality installation Lapse.
Joshua Davis is an American designer, technologist, author, and visual artist in new media. He is best known as the creator of praystation.com, winner of the Prix Ars Electronica 2001 Golden Nica for "Net Vision / Net Excellence”.
Louise Harvey is an Australian artist and educator who creates CG artwork and animation in various different styles and formats – abstract, semi-realistic, in VR format too sometimes and often in accompaniment to a musical score.

We are saturated by light, in cities, screens, TVs, phones, our own houses. We can’t rest anymore. Yet light, when used intentionally, holds one of the most ancient and powerful capacities in human experience: to make us conscious and bring us fully into the present to enjoy the beauty of life.
Through a collaboration with the Santa Fe based company aweStruct, Light in Mind will turn the historic districts of the Midtown Campus into a vibrant, multi-sensory experience using a fully modular, low energy use, high visual impact projection art system that can transform buildings and landscapes into immersive visual experiences weaving light and movement without the need for permanent infrastructure. Light in Mind will create moments of wonder that bring people together and reimagine the Midtown Campus in extraordinary ways.
Project Venue and Setting
Midtown is Santa Fe’s center of connection: a district where cultures, generations, and ideas come together. Rooted in history yet focused on the future, it is becoming the city’s hub for opportunity, creativity, and daily life. With its central location, Midtown links neighborhoods across Santa Fe, anchoring the whole community together.
SciArt Santa Fe, founded in 2019, fosters artists across disciplines that reflect the cultural diversity of New Mexico, supports research that addresses issues that disproportionately affect people of under-represented races, ethnicities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, national origins, citizenship statuses and ages including climate change, species extinction and migration, that often do not fit within a traditional gallery framework.
