In this afternoon of poetic prose and symphonic sounds, Abolition Row Park will come alive with the poetry and music of contemporary Black and Latino creatives Iva Brito, Hendrick Hernandez-Resto, and Maia Livramento in collaboration with musicians from New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.
Through a unique arrangement of original works and homages to literary and entertainment legends, this program will honor New Bedford’s abolitionist past, bring attention to present struggles for liberation, and express hope for a future free from oppression. Prepare for an interactive experience of community, culture, and history. Before the event, the New Bedford Historical Society will be conducting voter registration.
This is an outdoor event at Abolition Row Park, corner of Spring and 7th Streets, in downtown New Bedford. Lawn chairs and blankets welcome. Limited accessible seating available.
