Today’s specialists and practitioners have a moral and professional obligation to themselves, their patients and the general public to remain up to date in their fields of practice, and to adopt evidence-based practice and quality improvement. They must also act with integrity and put in place continuing professional development, acknowledge their shortcomings and learn from their mistakes so they continue to meet their obligations in the rapidly evolving regulatory environment. Usually their work is dependent on others in their teams, organisations and wider society.

This course has been designed to take participants through a step-by-step process of systematic reflective practice and continuous improvement by adopting a learning approach and by practising with peer learners those essential skills to listen, and taking time to think together. The course will emulate real life scenarios and provide participants across the public and private sectors and in the voluntary community and enterprise sector with tools to engage positively and co-produce ways of working that meet the needs of service delivery and wider society.

By practising these methods, they will become life skill habits that will incorporate a way of thinking and learning in a time efficient manner that will be beneficial for the individual and will augment their role within the organisation and professional practice. At the end of the course attendees should be able to put in place their daily, weekly, monthly and annual rhythms of reflections, appraisal and documentation to help achieve their own career goals, work-life balance, and better outcomes for their patients and services.
