Lifelong Learning Autumn Open Day - Saturday 12 September 2026
About this Event
Our annual Open Day offers a range of exciting opportunities to meet our course tutors, experience a new language, take part in a Reflective Art workshop, and meet the Confucius Institute team, who will deliver a Chinese Calligraphy workshop. Here’s a flavour of what you can expect on the day.
Language Tasters
As usual we will be offering taster sessions in a range of languages where you can enjoy a short introduction to a language and find out more about the courses we are offering throughout the year. We will be running each taster session twice so you are welcome to attend two different taster sessions during the day. Due to popular demand, we are offering two Spanish and German taster sessions in both the morning and afternoon.
Languages on offer this year are Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish.
Arts and Humanities Courses
Alongside our language tasters we will be showcasing our very popular Reflective Art in Practice course. This course examines the theory and practice behind a range of art movements with an illustrated lecture looking at context and incorporating group discussion. This is followed by a practical session in which techniques and ideas are sampled.
There will also be an opportunity to join a Chinese Calligraphy workshop which will be delivered by our Confucius Institute.
Refreshments, including coffee, tea, cold drinks and a selection of snacks will be available to purchase from the Avenue cafe (card payments only).
If you are joining us for the day, you may wish to bring a packed lunch.
Campus map and directions
Our Avenue campus map provides directions and links to Unilink buses which stop directly outside the campus.
We have a large car park at the Avenue campus and parking is free. There are signs which state 'permit holders' only, however parking restrictions do not apply at weekends or after 5pm on weekdays.
There are parking spaces available for blue badge holders and Building 65 is accessible for wheelchair users.
How to Book
There will be two sessions for each language and Arts and Humanities subject (one in the morning which will be repeated in the afternoon) and you are welcome to sign up for up to two sessions.
To book your tickets, please select one taster for the first session from 10:30am to 11:30am and one taster for the afternoon session from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Please note that the Portuguese taster sessions will take place at slightly different times, as shown in the timetable below.
There may be some additional questions on the booking form and this is to help us plan for the event. To avoid receiving automated reminders for this information from Eventbrite, please ensure you complete all the guest information requested before closing the registration page.
