About this Event
Life By Design: A 5-Day Course for Young Adults
Buiding Your Best Life is a practical, engaging 5-day summer course that teaches young adults the foundations of how to think strategically about their environment, health, mindset, relationships, and finances.
Through expert-led sessions, real-world frameworks, and hands-on exercises, students will leave with tools they can use immediately and for the rest of their lives.
Students will gain practical frameworks for:
• Designing environments that support focus and productivity
• Building healthy habits for fitness, energy, and mental clarity
• Presenting themselves with confidence and strong social skills
• Managing stress and navigating life’s challenges
• Understanding money and building a strong financial future
• Strategic thinking for a purposeful, successful life
Who This Course Is For
Young adults (ages 15+) who want to build confidence, independence, and real-world life skills before entering adulthood.
Perfect for students who want to learn how to take ownership of their future and operate at their highest potential.

Instructors
Susan Spieler
Susan Spieler brings over 40 years of experience in interior design, hospitality, and education.
She has worked professionally in design since 1989 and previously owned and operated a boutique hotel. Her background bridges design, construction, and human-centered environments, allowing her to teach how spaces influence mindset, productivity, and well-being.
Susan has:
• Taught interior design through UCSB Extension
• Passed the B1 General Contractor Exam
• Won the HGTV’s Designer’s Challenge
• Been featured in design publications
• Spent her life in the hospitality and design industries
Her work focuses on helping people design environments that support their best lives.
Schedule
Day 1 — Designing Your World
How your environment shapes how you think, feel, and perform.
Students will learn:
• How to design their room and spaces for focus and creativity
• Why organized environments improve mental clarity
• Principles from interior design and human psychology
• Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs

Day 2 — Taking Care of Your Body
Fitness and nutrition fundamentals for energy, focus, and long-term health.
Students will learn:
• Exercise fundamentals for lifelong fitness
• Nutrition basics for energy and performance
• Healthy habits that support mental clarity and productivity

Day 3 — Social Skills, Confidence & Self-Presentation
How to present yourself with confidence and communicate effectively.
Students will learn:
• Confidence and presence
• Communication and persuasion principles
• Choosing your reactions and mindset
• Self-presentation techniques applicable to both personal and business settings

Day 4 — Navigating Life’s Challenges
Mental tools for stress, resilience, and productivity.
Students will learn:
• Mental frameworks for handling pressure and uncertainty
