About this Event

Join Harris County Public Library (HCPL) and Rice University’s Center for the Study of Women, Gender, and Sexuality (CSWGS), as we welcome Leigh Pfeffer and Aubree Calvin, hosts of the podcasts History is Gay and Southern Queeries for a special presentation on Texas’ LGBTQ+ history and a panel discussion on censorship and book banning as part of our Pride Month celebration. Also participating on the panel will be Harris County Public Library librarian Sadina Shawver and Rice Professor Tesla Cariani as moderator. This presentation will be in-person* at Rice University (Herring Hall, Rm. 100) and streamed live through Harris County Public Library’s Facebook page. *Registration is only required for the in-person event.

Rice University Campus Humanities Building 117

We advise arriving early to allow time for traffic and parking. A map of the campus is available atrice.edu/maps. The Humanities Building is on the Inner Loop of campus.

Driving directions: Convenient, self-pay parking is most accessible from campus entrances 1, 2, 3, 8 and 20. All lots are credit card entry. The closest parking for Humanities Building is in the Entrance 3 Garage attached to the Cambridge Office Building. The Humanities Building is approximately 4 minutes by foot. From the Entrance 3 Garage, take Entrance 3 Road, and turn left onto the Inner Loop (College Way). The Humanities Building will be on your right, just past Rayzor Hall.

Mass Transit: The closest MetroRail stop to the Humanities Building is “Memorial Hermann Hospital / Houston Zoo” on the Red Line. The Humanities Building is approximately 15 minutes by foot from the MetroRail stop. Metro bus routes56 and 84 also offer service to the campus.

Campus Shuttles: Once you are on campus, several free shuttle routes are available with real time tracking
