This special community ceremony will commemorate the raising of a new Liberty Pole on the Norwichtown Green, honoring Norwich’s 1765 act of resistance to the Stamp Act and the enduring ideals of freedom, self-government, and civic action.
Liberty Poles became important symbols of resistance and unity throughout the Revolutionary era, serving as gathering places for communities committed to liberty and self-determination. By raising a new Liberty Pole in Norwichtown, we honor Norwich’s Revolutionary history and recognize the continued importance of civic participation in American life.
