Immerse yourself in Liberating Structures: simple, engaging methods that help change how people work together.
About this Event

You've sat in enough bad meetings to last a lifetime.

The ones where the loudest voice wins. Where the agenda never gets finished. Where the same three people talk and everyone else checks their phones. Where you walk out with a list of action items that nobody follows through on.

If you lead a team, facilitate groups, or consult with organizations, you already know the problem. What you may not have is a practical, proven set of tools to fix it — permanently.

The very best way to learn Liberating Structures is to experience it. In much the same way you can immerse yourself in a language, you will be immersed in two (full) days of Liberating Structures: we'll overview a structure, give you the opportunity to experience the structure personally, and then debrief the experience and discuss what you learned (and what questions you still have).

That's what this immersion is for.

WHAT IS LIBERATING STRUCTURES:

Liberating Structures is a collection of 43 facilitation methods developed to replace the five conventional structures that dominate most organizations: presentations, managed discussions, status reports, brainstorming, and open-ended conversation.

They work in meetings, strategic planning sessions, team offsites, design sprints, and one-on-ones. They're simple enough to learn in minutes and powerful enough to transform a room.

Used by organizations from startups to the Fortune 500, LS is one of the most practical and field-tested facilitation approaches available — and still largely unknown in non-profits and small- and mid-size business world.

WHAT YOU'LL WALK AWAY WITH:

After two days, you'll have:

  • Hands-on experience with 20-25 powerful LS structures — not just conceptual understanding, but muscle memory from using them
  • A practical playbook for which structures to use in which situations — planning sessions, team conflicts, innovation challenges, accountability conversations
  • Confidence to facilitate groups of any size, at any level, without relying on a rigid agenda
  • A peer cohort of practitioners to learn from and collaborate with going forward

WHO THIS IS FOR:

This immersion is designed for:

  • Founders and operators of small and mid-size businesses who run teams and lead planning
  • Consultants and coaches who facilitate client engagements and want a more powerful toolkit
  • HR leaders, trainers, and people managers who own team development and culture
  • Non-profit EDs and team leads who need to use their time, even meeting time, as effectively as possible
  • Anyone who facilitates groups — formally or informally — and wants to do it dramatically better

You don't need any prior facilitation experience. You do need to show up ready to participate fully — this is not a lecture, it's an immersion.

THE DETAILS:

We'll run nearly two full days. Although we start at 9am, we'll open the doors at 8:30am for coffee and settling-in. We'll break for lunch midday, and we'll have a few snack breaks.

  • Tuesday, September 9th: 9am - 4pm
  • Wednesday, September 10th: 9am - 2pm

And, new this session: we're adding a virtual session follow-up, to see how your practice is going and answer any questions that have come-up:

  • Thursday, October 22nd: 11:30am - 1pm

Liberating Structures is fluid in nature, so we will not publish a detailed schedule and will adjust timing as we go.

Registration Includes

  • Admission for both in-person days and the virtual follow-up
  • Lunch and snacks on both days
  • Your own Liberating Structures deck of cards

WHAT PAST ATTENDEES HAVE SAID:

"Thank you for this wonderful experience! You made this feel very welcoming and accessible for people with all levels of experience."

“[this training] has invigorated my WHY (for why I love facilitating) and given me great tools to spruce it up.”

"This was an incredible experience. I loved the exposure to so many structures, explanations on how to customize and pair, how we were able to apply [to our] current efforts. I'll be able to apply these right away."

"Great examples, lots of practice, valuable insights from the group. Gave me confidence to move into independent facilitation."

"I feel ready to fully design my next event."
