About this Event

Come enjoy a drink while getting disarmed by the sweet melodies and honest lyrics of Canada's next generation of songwriters

Liam S. Russell:
Liam S. Russell is a Songwriter based in Ottawa, Ontario. He writes lyrics exploring characters and stories based on Canadian small town lives. He has a degree in music from Carleton University, where he studied songwriting with Kalle Mattson (a Juno and Polaris nominated songwriter). He has opened for a number of artists including Jim Bryson, Summersets, and The Lionyls. His influences include but are not limited to Bob Dylan, Gillian Welch, Jeff Tweedy, John K. Samson, Tom Waits, Christian Lee Hutson and Elliott Smith

Rachella Wred:

Singer-songwriter Rachella Wred is a West Coast transplant currently living in Montreal. Split between the ambience of the Montreal bustle and the pull of the Pacific Ocean, her personal lyrics and soaring melodies capture the delicacy and transience of human emotion with specificity and ease. Equipped with her acoustic guitar, SP404, synth, and intimate songwriting, she has filled rooms across Canada. Folk music and writing have given her the space to explore storytelling through music, drawing on the sounds of her surroundings and of the natural world. She has been featured in Exclaim, CBC, The Line of Best Fit, Billboard Canada, Range Magazine, and Montreal Guardian. Written around intimate endings and beginnings, Leave The Light On, released in April 2025, is Rachella Wred’s debut album. It has charted over 10 weeks on !earshot’s national campus and community radio report since it’s release and continues to gain momentum, resonating with listeners across the country.

Angela Begin:

Angela Begin is a singer-songwriter, radio show host, and music educator based between Treaty 6 Territory (Edmonton) and Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang (Montreal).

Her creative practice is informed by the natural world, and the themes of spaciousness, temporality and transformation. Angela’s songs and writings are meditative and self-reflective explorations about home, mutability, migration, and interrelationality. Influenced by Joni Mitchell, Adrianne Lenker and Bon Iver, her songwriting emulates the layered, spirallic and multi-perspective nature of memory and storytelling.

Her debut single 'Rose Up' was featured by Folk Canada, ReFolkus Radio, Tongue Tied Magazine, and as Earshot! Radio's Song of the Day.

Angela's debut record 'Messenger' will be released in Summer 2026.

Bobby Tarian:

Bobby draws on the expansive landscapes and golden-hued prairie sunsets of his home province of Alberta for inspiration – whether weaved into candid lyrics or embodied through the ethereal melodies. Bobby pushes the boundaries of folk music by incorporating synths, manipulating found sound, and employs a palette of effects to achieve a sound like out of a dream. Pulling from a decade of experience with classical guitar, Bobby favors intricate fingerpicking techniques along with layered observational lyricism to explore vulnerability, societal issues, introspection, and emotional well-being. Bobby is influenced by the emotional production of Sufjan Stevens, the rawness of The Strokes, and the narrative-driven storytelling of Andy Shauf.
