About this Event
On Sunday, December 1 The People's Liberation Big Band of Greater Kansas City will present a concert featuring music from Owen/Cox Dance Group’s contemporary jazz adaptation of 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King' at All Souls Unitarian Universalist Church in Kansas City, MO.
In addition to performing whimsical and highly unique arrangements of Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, the performance will feature historical insights into E.T.A. Hoffman’s 1816 story 'The Nutcracker and the Mouse King,' and trace the story’s unlikely journey from its origin as a dark and fantastical fairy tale to becoming the world’s most popular ballet.
Sixteen musicians of The People’s Liberation Big Band, led by Brad Cox, will perform arrangements by Cox, Patrick Alonzo Conway, Jeff Harshbarger, and Forest Stewart. Notable Kansas City musicians performing include Matt Otto (saxophone), Rich Wheeler (saxophone), and Jeff Harshbarger (bass).
Attend this performance for free with the purchase of a ticket to Owen/Cox Dance Group's "The Nutcracker and The Mouse King", performances December 13 and 15 at Polsky Theater at the Midwest Trust Center.
